Welcome back to another school year! And a very special welcome to the world of middle school! My name is Mrs. Cronin, and I will be your/ your child's science teacher this year. I look forward to getting to know students and parents, and I am confident that we are going to have a great year.
To provide a little background about myself, I have a Bachelor's degree in Biology from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and a Master's in Education from the University of Massachusetts Boston. In case you couldn't tell, I'm a Massachusetts gal :) I grew up just outside of Boston, and have been living in South Florida for almost two years now. I have also lived in San Diego, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C. Before becoming a teacher, I worked in the field of clinical research. I love teaching and discovering the many ways in which science connects to real life experience. My hobbies include cooking (mostly vegetarian), reading, traveling, running, and doing anything outside. This is my second year teaching science at Franklin Academy Cooper City. Last year I taught 7th grade only, so I am very excited to get to teach 6th grade as well.
6th grade brings a lot of changes - it is the first year that you will switch classes and have different teachers for each subject, you may have to take notes and keep separate notebooks for the first time, and you may need to study more than ever before. Part of my role is to help you with all of these changes and help you to build habits that will make you into strong learners for the rest of middle school, high school, and beyond. For that reason, I have laid out some specific procedures to help with organization in the class syllabus, which is posted to the right. Parents and students, please make sure you read and understand the class syllabus. We will also go over it on the first day. Always know that I am here to help, and please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
Parents, if you could please take a moment to fill out the parent questionnaire, I would greatly appreciate it. You can access it by clicking on this link
Students, please complete the student questionnaire by clicking on this link
Finally, as mentioned in the page heading, please check this blog on a regular basis. I will post a variety of materials to help students study, such as practice work, online tutorials, videos, and test study guides. I will also post announcements and class summaries to keep parents up to date. If a student is absent, this blog is where you find out what you missed in class. If you have a question that you think other students might also want to know, you can post it to the comments section. My hope is that everyone takes full advantage of these opportunities for learning support. I look forward to seeing and meeting you all next week!
