Study Skills: READ Chapter 3, lesson 2
Every class is in a slightly different place due to yesterday's writing assessment, but all classes finished chapter 3, lesson 1 which focused on comparing and contrasting erosion and deposition. Chapter 3 lesson 2 explores erosion and deposition more in depth by examining landforms that are built up or broken down by water and/or wind. Tomorrow in class, students will be making a foldable to organize information on these landforms.

Apologies for the lack of updates - we had some internet issues at school last week. We finished Chapter 2, lesson 1 on Thursday with the quiz on weathering, and we have moved on to Chapter 3, Erosion and Deposition. Vocabulary for this chapter is as follows:
Today in class, students reviewed the differences between weathering and erosion by filling out the attached table, and began a foldable to organize their notes on the types of landforms created by erosion versus the types of landforms created by deposition.
Study Skills: Over the next few days, use the attached worksheets to reinforce what we are learning in class about erosion and deposition.
Today, we finished chapter 2, lesson 1, and passed in the lesson review on pages 51-52. Study Skills: Watch the BrainPOP on weathering and take the quiz (username: facc, passowrd: facc33330.) Then complete the worksheet using your book and notes. https://www.brainpop.com/science/weather/weathering/
Today we began chapter 2 on weathering. Students completed a launch lab in which we modeled mechanical weathering. Vocabulary for this chapter is as follows:
Study Skills: Read Chapter 2, lesson 1 and make sure you have all of the vocabulary with definitions and example sentences written in your notebooks. Today, we completed and passed in the Chapter 1 Review on pages 34-35 of the textbooks. The Chapter 1 test will be on Wednesday. The outline below is a summary of everything you should know and be able to explain in order to be successful on the test:
Chapter 1 Study Guide 1. Know all vocabulary terms 2. What are Earth’s systems and explain the ways in which they interact. 3. For each system, explain the ways in which human activities might have a negative impact and disrupt the balance of the systems. 4. Where does the energy that drives the water cycle come from? 5. What are the processes of the water cycle and what happens in each one? 6. How does the water cycle show interactions among Earth’s systems? 7. What is the difference between climate and weather? What are examples of each? 8. How does weather show interactions between Earth’s systems? 9. What is the difference between weathering and erosion and what causes each? 10. What are the layers of the geosphere from outside to inside? 11. What are the three types of rock and how are each formed? 12. What is the rock cycle and how does it show interactions between Earth’s systems? 13. What are the factors causing global warming and what effect does warmer climates have on Earth’s systems? Today, we finished observing our model of transpiration within the water cycle, and then read about the rock cycle.
Study Skills: Watch the rock cycle StudyJams and take the quiz. http://studyjams.scholastic.com/studyjams/jams/science/rocks-minerals-landforms/rock-cycle.htm NOTE: The chapter test for chapter 1 will be on Wednesday February 11. Today, students learned about and answered the two key questions: How does the water cycle show interactions between Earth's systems? and How does weather show interactions between Earth's systems?
Study Skills: Click on the link for a StudyJams on weather and climate http://studyjams.scholastic.com/studyjams/jams/science/weather-and-climate/weather-and-climate.htm and answer the following questions: 1. What is climate? 2. What is one reason that climates differ? 3. How can mountains affect climate? 4. How can ocean currents affect climate? Today, students completed the launch lab on page 22 of their textbooks and passed it in. We then began taking notes on the water cycle in order to answer the key concept: How does the water cycle show interactions of Earth's systems? Study Skills: Click on the following link to watch a video with questions on the water cycle http://studyjams.scholastic.com/studyjams/jams/science/weather-and-climate/water-cycle.htm and answer the following practice questions:
